After Adam and Eve got kicked out of the Garden of Eden, the Lord commanded Adam and Eve to till the earth, to have dominion over all the beasts of the field and to eat their bread by the sweat of their brow. The Lord also says,Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy. In essense, I believe God's saying, "I'm giving you a chance to become like me, and if you work hard, you can play hard! I love that God gives us these outstanding commandments to make us outstanding children. My mother is a great example to me of leading a balanced life. She works hard all day every day(even till 3 or 4am) but she's the biggest party animal I know! She lives in the moment without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. She reacts to situations and as a result she accomplishes everything that comes her way! Every opportunity that presents itself, she jumps at it. She lives life to the fullest. She doesnt even skip a beat, when she sees or hears about someone in need she jumps to action whipping up some homeade soup or fresh rolls. She's a great example to me. She makes me want to push myself to be my BEST self. Her famous saying around our house is, "Life is what you make it!" I've come to accept that philosophy in my life and I LOVe my life!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6676989098294974555.post-7601233711157840242009-04-28T09:41:00.000-07:002009-04-28T09:41:00.000-07:00Experiences make up who we are- this is an awesome...Experiences make up who we are- this is an awesome idea... and good for all of us to reflect on what and who has made us who we are. Ugh.

I totally agree that writing with a pencil and paper (I prefer pencil...A good PaperMate PhD with .5 mm lead) serves us all well every once in a while. Two reasons come to mind. 1) It helps us discern between logical and illogical thoughts when we see them on paper...Dejunking our minds and clearing the way for solutions. 2) I sincerely believe that most of the answers to problems are either inside of us already or the Lord will put them there if we're ready to receive them...And by writing them down, you're actively finding them rather than just waiting for the Lord to hit us over the head with them.

I'm excited to read more insightfulness from you! :)Meganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18033607688062415979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6676989098294974555.post-60293767887017713992009-02-15T00:48:00.000-07:002009-02-15T00:48:00.000-07:00Bob and Rich! Despite having a tablet PC that allows me to write on the screen, there is still something about working with a pen and paper that helps me more effectively learn.

And I think it is exactly because of the reason you said. You don't have to work right to left. You are not constricted by the screen.

Probably the most frustrating thing I find on a PC is switching between windows (which is one reason I prefer Macs).Working on a PC is like pouring through notes on a 12 inch squared desk.richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11897700749792986326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6676989098294974555.post-20314737376252923182009-02-02T09:15:00.000-07:002009-02-02T09:15:00.000-07:00Something I've found specifically with the goal of...Something I've found specifically with the goal of losing weight and being healthy is that people lose perspective so easily. They want to be healthy, and yet they eat fast food and don't work out. Typically, this is because their time is limited. However, long term, you're shaving five years off your life by not working out, as well as decreasing the quality of life you will enjoy in your later years. A common activity I do with my clients is having them answer questions about exactly what they did that day. How many hours did you spend doing something you sincerely enjoy? How many hours did you spend looking at the computer (work related or not)? Obviously there are more questions, but you get the concept. If you honestly look at your day, I am willing to bet you have at LEAST an hour (no matter what your career) to do something to take care of your body that God has given you. Gaining that perspective is one of the greatest motivators...rather than "investing" in someone else's company or happiness, carve out time to invest in your future health and happiness...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6676989098294974555.post-37066764884589831962009-01-31T18:10:00.000-07:002009-01-31T18:10:00.000-07:00I just recently posted a blog about intentional li...I just recently posted a blog about intentional living and it seems connected to this idea. They had lost a set of twin boys recently that were born prematurely. So as I was teaching them I shared my personal experience that my brother had died at the age of 15 and a little bit about my testimony and how my family is dealing with his death and how crazy we are about the gift of the Atonement and the Resurrection.

I felt the spirit and I thought the discussion went well but when I looked over at my companion she didn't seem to agree. After the discussion, once we were outside, I quickly turned to my companion and asked her what was wrong. She looked at me and said (basically), "It's not about you!"

I was shocked and confused. Come to find out just a year previous her mother had died from cancer. She related to me that it's not about us, as missionaries to tell our stories, as much as is our role to teach them about Christ and His healing power.

She told me that I had spent a lot of time talking about me, my family, and my experience, when we really should have been talking about Christ and the Atonement.

It took me a while to understand what she was saying since in my mind (the story I had told myself) I was just relating personally to this family. But boy have I learned a lot from that little lesson from my companion.Kyleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04526308947843754228noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6676989098294974555.post-83840897414394995742009-01-20T15:23:00.000-07:002009-01-20T15:23:00.000-07:00ha ha ha! Some may disagree, but I believe the phrase "there is opposition in all tihngs" is a perfect quote on balance. To know the good, you must experience the bad, to know light you must have darkness. Therefore, balance...

However, in relation to this posting, I have realized in my own life that when I am staying busy (with a balance, or wide variety of tasks, activities, etc) I get so much accomplished and feel good about myself. And then there are times like right now for example, where I feel like I don't do enough, and so I have a long list of unchecked items b/c I lose motivation. I have been focusing so much on work lately (kind of a necessity) but this particular job I have had feels like it is sucking the life right out of me. That's probably a subject for another time, but basically I have too much of a negative thing right now, and not enough positive to balance it out.

I will get there though, we all can.Chandler Treasure Chesthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03422483052153506511noreply@blogger.com
